Experience

I am currently in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Honors Program and the University Honors Program at NCSU. I am also a University Honors Program Fellow, with a position helping students newly admitted to the Honors program and living in the Honors village adjust to university life. This position, along with my completion of two honors program requirements, mandates that I have a high GPA (at least 3.25 if I remember correctly) which I am well above. I attended the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, living at a residential boarding school for the last two years of my high school education and have been performing independent research since my senior year. I also worked as an editor for the Undergraduate Research Journal at NCSU, providing me with the tools necessary to accurately and efficiently edit papers and assist students with the presentation of their work. My former research projects have included studies on the cardiac effects of Sudafed and Sudafed PE (The effects of Pseudoephedrine and Phenylephrine on the Tachycardia of Daphnia magna), the etiologies of Parkinson's Disease and Multiple Sclerosis, The differentiation of Human Adipose-derived Stem cells into calcium deposits for grafting and scaffolding, presented a poster on BSE (Bovine spongiform encephalopathy), and, most recently, a project on theropod claw morphology (how ancestral birds/reptiles developed similar anatomical structures) and a project in Neuroscience studying the relationship between specific Tachykinin genes and kiss peptin (and their overall function and relationship within the brains of the bluehead wrasse coral reef fish) to better understand the sexually dimorphic behavior that characterizes these fish. To complete my Theropod claw morphology project, I worked with the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, using their archives and private specimen collection of skeletons and taxidermy. I am to be published via my work with the museum as well as through my current independent research work through NCSU. In short, I love research, especially in Neuroscience, and have had such a wide range of experiences concerning teaching styles and study techniques that I feel I may be able to come up with new and creative ways for students to get a grasp on the material. I've been in situations where I felt incredibly overwhelmed by a topic I was learning, so who better to devise innovative methods of "getting" the material than someone who understands the struggle? It would be my pleasure to help in any way possible
